Butchart Gardens

World Famous Butchart Gardens

I had the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful places in the world.  It was for me, a place of serenity, peace, and beauty. Located in Brentwood Bay, British Columbia, Canada, and located near Victoria on Vancouver Island is a magnificent collection of the most beautiful plants on the planet. It is called Butchart Gardens.  With additional features such as live entertainment, and lighting to provide night viewing, it is internationally famous and attracts visitors from all around the world.

This place is a tribute to what can be done to beautify the world. Originally a quarry for the production of Portland cement, it covers 55 acres and has groups of floral display gardens.  The interesting thing about this place is that during the creation of the gardens in the early 1900’s.  The estate owners Robert and Jeannie Butchart brought over the soil and actually planted the gorgeous array of plants themselves in their estate which was at once a barren scar left from the old quarry. Now, these plants that are enjoyed by over a million visitors each year.

I remember sharing the beauty of the estate with my parents in the 70’s and 80’s. What a wonderful experience to share something so spectacular with the people that mean so very much to you. I am glad that we shared it during their life when they could enjoy it!  As a family tradition now, my children and their children still enjoy the grandeur and lively entertainment.

These pictures capture the fresh air, sights, and smell of the aromatic beauty of this place. There are over a million plants that are planted each year with love by the dedicated gardeners for the pleasure of the entire world. Oh what a place to tour and enjoy!
